Cobra™ Wrap
Product Overview
Cobra™ Wrap is a copper-based protective bandage designed for exterior use on utility poles. When applied correctly around the groundline of a pole, Cobra™ Wrap utilizes copper naphthenate as its active ingredient, which is effectively delivered deep into the wood by P9 oil, while also creating a moisture barrier to prevent soil contact. This combination has consistently achieved superior copper retention and preservative penetration throughout the treatment cycle of a utility pole.
The design of Cobra™ Wrap facilitates ease of use, consistency, and efficiency during installation. Prefabricated panels simplify the process for installers, requiring significantly less effort. Each panel contains the precise amount of chemical needed for any utility pole application, allowing for easy cutting to size and application, thereby reducing the risk of improper treatment. Additionally, Cobra™ Wrap’s patented, self-contained delivery system minimizes chemical exposure to both the installer and the environment, which is vital for preserving the structural integrity of the pole, as 90% of its strength is concentrated in the outer
three inches. This product is approved by PMRA and EPA and features ingredients endorsed by the American Wood Protection Association for their effectiveness in combating fungal activity.
Environmental:
Toxicology evaluations conducted by Applied Sciences Laboratory in California on copper naphthenate, when diluted in a solvent to achieve a 2% copper concentration, reveal an LD50
value exceeding 5000 mg/kg in Acute Oral tests and an LD50 value greater than 2000 mg/kg in Acute Dermal tests. For comparison, table salt has an LD50 value of 3000 mg/kg in acute oral toxicity tests, indicating that table salt is more toxic at lower doses than the Cobra™ Wrap solution.

Oregon State University – 1996 Test on Pole Wraps:
-
- Cobra™ Wrap maintained the highest rate of diffusion and longest retention over 78months.
- Copper is highly effective against soft-rot fungi or ascomycetes which arepredominantly found in the outer shell of wood structures.
